Re: Largest Prop for an Alpha I?

Bill:

The prop I have on there I bought with the intent of pulling skiers, and tubers when we go to the lake for that... Its a 4 blade... Plus at least this way I guess I wont have to worry about over reving the engine... HA HA.. Since its brand spanking new.....

I was thinking of trying a composite prop like the propulse where I can change angles on it so that way when I am not doing the other stuff I can get better Perf. out of it.... Damn things are just expensive, still trying to pay for the freaking motor....

Hey Bill, I really appreciate your knowledge and time that you take to help me and the other boaters who dont have the level you do. You are a great asset to this web site..

Tallman

Your Welcome,+ Thanks for the Compliment....
Another way to see the Prop you have now is, Your Lugging the Sh*t out of that Brand New Motor....
Sking,+ Tubing ?????
Your driving around all day, Pulling a Load... In Third Gear...
Sell that prop... Surf Ebay,+ find a shorter pitch for yours... You,+ your Boat will appreacate it...
4600rpms is a good solid # to shoot for...
If you want to try 1 of those Plastic Props, Go Ahead... But get your rpms up.... Your boat May actually go Faster, With a Smaller Wheel...
A Merc. High-5 in 18 or 19"s...
A Comprop 4 blade in 20"s...
The Choices are Endless.....

Tallman & bondo:

You guys are right on...there are a tremendous number of variables in props. I, for instance notice a significant difference between stainless and aluminum props of the same diameter and pitch, and as you have suggested there are lots of other differences. Most importantly WOT should be in the proper range and performance must meet your needs, such as pulling skiers out of the water, etc. You'll sacrifice other things, such as top-end, but it's all about maximizing what you want.
