Well since it's raining and I am bored stiff I have been sitting here planing out my trip through Utah into Nevada and Vegas. I have a room booked for 2 nights in Vegas and was just wondering if any of you guys know of some good places to eat or things I should see while I am in Vegas. I'll be staying right on the strip at Harras if that helps. It would be nice to have some places in mind when I get there so I dont have to spend alot of time trying to figure everything out. My time is limited. Thanks in advance. :)

He,he,Crabbait. Never had the money in the old days to afford the gold room......had to settle for the poor mans suite where the buns were sometimes less than perfect if you know what I mean......

All these years and never been to Vegas.
Im not much of a gambler, but I suppose it would
still be a great place to visit. I wonder if it
would be a good place for a family, or more for
the wife and I ?

Flathead--Tip for Vegas if your not in to big time gambling only play the slots near the main doors, they pay off more often as that helps bring in the crowds. Also do not use the ATM in the casino, some charge as much as $20.00 per withdrawl.

Re: Las Vegas

Where do you start? What is interesting to one is boring to others.

As a tourist, the Dam Tour is good. That's the Hoover Dam. Hint, get there early, so you can get through before the big crowds gets there.

Plan on spending an evening on Fairmont Street (the old vegas strip). If it's the weekend they may even have bands playing at some of the intersections. Lots to see and experience even if you don't plan on gambling. Light shows every hour on the hour each one being different than the previous.

You can spend several days just walking the strip. Mirage's show (volcano) is every 20-30 minutes or so. Treasure Island show (next door) (pirates) is every 45 minutes or so. Waterworks show at the Bellogio is interesting to watch. All the above stuff is outdoors and free. Plan on spending some time at Venetian (quite unique) as well as New York-New York.

Since time is limited, Venetian and New York-New York can be done during the day. New York-New York is good lunch territory. Whereas the Mirage, Bellogio, and Treasure Island are best planned for the evening.

Places to eat (dinner): We like Bally's Buffet, great selection for a reasonable price (as prices go). We also like Sunset Stations buffet, however they're not on the strip, but are located south and east of the main Vegas area (you pass it on the way to Lake Mead/Hoover Dam). Have heard great things about the Rio's Buffet (other side of interstate), however, that has not been our experience. Terrible food the time we tried it.

You WILL run out of time quickly, and will only touch the tip of the iceburg as to things to see and do.

Re: Las Vegas

Flahthead, I just got back from Vegas. One of my friends got married out there and I went to the wedding. We stayed at the New Frontier. If booked by Expedia, we got the third night free. The room was nice and clean. The pool and jacuzzi was uncrowded and nice. It was great for the kids in our party. It is not fancy. but has easy self parking that is close to the entrance to the atrium suites.

Rio Seafood buffet was great when we went. The mini lobster tails and snow crab legs were delicious. Rio is easy to get to. The buffet costs $31 per person.

We also visited a Brazilian barbeque place about two miles from the strip. It wa also very good. Definitely an experience. I think the place was called Yoli's or somethig like that. They bring spits of roasted meats to your table and slice whatever you want off. They just keep it coming. It is $27 per person plus drinks etc.

There is a good mexican restaurant on the strip. It is on the East side (Harrah's side) down near the Riviera. It is on the second floor of a building. The lower level is a car rental place where you can rent Vipers etc.

Pirate show at Treasure Island is probably the best free show in Vegas. It is playing through June and then will be shut down to be redone. This is your last chance to see the current show.

Fountains in Ceasars Palace also have shows. The main one has a good show with lots of flames.

The Hoover dam tour is nice. I have done it twice.

Red Rock canyon is nice to drive through and not too far outside Vegas.

I have heard great things about Chef Keith and the Westward Ho breakfast. He does Omlets to order. The Westward Ho is not a big, fancy or expensive place.

Good luck on the gambling. Both my friend and I won over $120 on the piggy bank slots in the Frontier.

Have a great time. Hopefully it will be cooler there. It was between 107 and 112 while we were there. The pool sure felt nice.
