Checked my drive oil level other day..I noted oil was leaking.. had been out 3 times on water thus far..I pumped in few shots noted slight milky oil..also noted zero gaskets on either fill or vent screws..ordered more oil and new screws/gaskets..drained all oil out just now..bout ounce of water burbled out..oil turned normal..drained it all and replaced...glad I checked that..as water was ebbing in. Over summer use I could have toasted my lower gears had I not caught this...seals r seals...make sure you check em out.

You should be replacing the o-rings/gaskets on every one of those screws every time you change your gear lube.

Yep, every time. Luckily Napa carries them when I forget to order them.

Yep...I check my outdrive oil every few outings just to be sure and replace those little gaskets every year. I know I probably get a bit carried away but if anything were to happen I know I did my part and it would be just a fluke and not something I overlooked. I actually go thru and check most everything after each outing as my boat sits on a trailer in my barn so thru the week I make a point to check things over so I know for sure I am ready for the weekend.
