I found the same latch problem with my Evinrude 6 hp. I don't understand its function. I have a new lower latch, but I cannot figure out how the upper part can be fixed with it. Could somebody help with this by trying to explain its function?
Mikko, I am sure I as well as others would like to help you out. But I am not really sure what you are asking about. Can you provide additional info and even some pictures of your latch and what your problem is with it. The old thread shows a latch and it looks like that latch plugs into the receiver section and I am supposing there is a lip on the back side of the plug on part that clicks into place. But I can't tell for sure. Post some pictures of yours and lets see what you are dealing with.
I have no pictures of my own motor available at this moment but it is similar with the attached one here. I don't see any lips or something else where this latch or guide or tongue (whatever) with spring plugs in. It goes to the receiving part but it does not click into place. Where should this spring go to? All the surfaces in the latch are so smooth that I really cannot understand which part clicks and where.
