Late 60s evinrude big twin 40hp fuel pump

Recently bought a new fuel pump but it is different than the original and hitting the throttle lever. My question is can it be mounted upside down and still work? Or can I swap the two covers and make it mount on the side of the bottom cylinder? I have attached two pictures of my current situation and the side plates I was talking about above. Any help would be appreciated

Swap the bypass covers.----Run the PRESSURE operated pump of the bottom cylinder.

So those covers will swap right over from top to bottom?
