I replaced both coils on my 9.5 last year and the motor started on basically 1 pull. I pulled it out of the basement and put it on teh boatr this weekend and I couldn't get it to fire. I have fuel and spark but no ignition.

Any advice from board members?

Thanks

If you have fuel and spark you should check your compression. My first thought was for you to disconnect your kill switch but if you have spark that would not be the problem. Compression won't likely be much over 70 to 80 IMO that will be fine. If that checks out fine I would pull the flywheel and have a close look at everything including cleaning and re-setting the point gap to .020. After that do a spark test to see if it will jump 3/8 inch with a blue/white snappy spark. Let us know what you find. Best of luck. Rick.

If it's late 70's, then it's a 9.9. The 9.5 was dropped in 1973. Do you have a model number by chance?

Apologies, It is a 73 9.5.

I'll bring my compression tester up with me this weekend. The spark was there but was not strong enough to jump the 3/8" as you are mentioning.

I will pick up a tune up kit this week and a new set of plugs. The motor is three hours away from me so I want to be prepared when I get to the cottage as I have no internet and all of the marina's and marines in the area close at 1pm on saturdays ( I can never figure this one out. Why close on a Saturday at 1pm when the majority of your business happens on weekends).
