I'm looking at a late 80's 175 VRO, the current owner said a magnet came loose and trashed the stator and the flywheel. Said it ran good to that point. This had happened earlier this summer.
Is this a reasonable fix and is this motor worth the investment? The stator alone is $280 and the flywheel may be hard to find.
He's asking $1800 for the 21' Chris Craft boat, motor, dual axle ezloader trailer.
I was thinking this may be a good back up motor for my current 150 on my 22' Starcraft CC.
But it sounds like the motor will need some work.

Flywheel shouldn't be too hard to find:

Salvage yards:
sea-way.com
outboard-parts.com
laingsoutboards.com
tcoutboard.com
fairwindsmarina.com
salvagemarine.com
marinepartsoutlet.com
Superior Marine (800-338-9281)
trixieslanding.com Trixie?s Landing, Bayville, NJ 732-269-5838
americanoutboard.com
piratemarinesalvage.com/

CDI Electronics may have the stator for a little less. Pretty easy fix if you handy. Get a shop manual first.

The flywheel may be salvable. You can buy replacement magnet kits from Bombardier. 584304. Kit is for one magnet and the epoxy to glue it in place. If you go for a used flywheel, make sure you get the correct part number. The early (mid 80's) vented crossflow flywheels won't work on your later model.
