Hey guys. I have a 35 HP Evinrude on a 15ft Alumacraft. I'm trying to eliminate some of the weight at the back of the boat. I currently have large deep cycle battery for the trolling motor and a large dual purposee for cranking. I was wondering if I could get by with a small lawn mower battery for cranking. It starts easily and I can always pull start it if I have to. If so, would it be OK to charge it with my onboard 2 bank battery charger?

Lawn mover batteries normally charged with a very low amp battery charger.

Personaly I would not go with a battery smaller than a group 24 or 26.

I suggest that you replace both batteries with one GRP 31 Everstart Marine Maxx dual purpose battery and use that for both applications.

Very unlikely that you can discharge it far enough in one day of fishing so that it won't start the 35.

Been using them for about 8 years for positioning and starting bigger engines than your 35. Never had it so low it wouldn't start the outboard. I always use Minn Kota Maximizer equipped trollers. That big Marine Maxx will run a 55lb Minn Kota Genesis AP troller all day.
