Happened yesterday while I was trailering the boat. My tilt/trim had a hard time lifting and lowering the engine. The motor sounds like it is working hard before any engagement happens. what should I be looking at before I start buying parts?

Read voltage to trim motor while your pushing the switch to make sure it's getting full voltage under load. If so locate a new motor first because they can be hard to find. I say this because you will probably screew it up by taking it apart but pull the end off the motor and clean the brushes and amature. If you are creative and extreamly mechanically inclined it will go back together if your not then order that motor befor it's gone. Those old trim units suck and even motor replacement can be a pain. Hopefully you just have weak voltage going to it.

Just a quick update:
Checked the fluid level and found that it was really low. Filled that and the problem went away, but I did notice a couple of o-rings that need to get swapped out. That's probably where the old fluid went. Hopefully the repair is fairly simple for the pistons
