Hey all I'm posting here for opinions on my boats/trailer's weight. I need to replace the leaf springs but I'm not sure of what size spring I need to get because I have no clue of the boats weight. the hin tag was taken off by a previous owner and the title says nothing about the weight. so here it is. the boat is an older tri hull it's a 15' by 6' wide with an older mercury 1115? any opinions would be greatly appreciated. If any of you tri hull guys could tell me a ball park figure that would be great.
thank you

Take your old springs to Northern Tools or Tractor Supply and get some the same size.

Re: leaf springs?

You need to get your boat and trailer weighed. You also need to know the rating of the axle and tires.

Re: leaf springs?

If you know even the brand of the trailer, I was able to bring my old springs to my boat guys and they were able to call the company and figure out what springs I needed. The company that made my trailer ended up transferring hands at least twice before they ended up with Shore Lander. I don't think there's more than 2 or 3 boat trailer manufacturers anymore. Maybe you'll get lucky though and TSC or NT will have the ones you need. That wasn't the case for me.

... the HIN Tag was taken off by a previous owner ...

Do you mean the Capacity Plate?
The HIN is molded into the Hull in any Glass boat made in the last 40 years.
Removing the HIN is going to cause Title/Registration issues if this is the case.

The HIN number is hidden somewhere else on the boat. They put two on the boat, one on the transom and one hidden. Look up under the dash and see if it's there. If you can Google the boat manufacture and maybe you will be able to get in touch with someone as where to look.

Re: leaf springs?

Get a new set of springs that will match the load capacity shown on the trailer tires.

This is the best idea so far! EXCEPT that the tires may be way over-rated and you don't want a pair of springs rated at 3450 under a 1000# boat...

It will be best to actually get the weight of boat and trailer. Any sand-n-gravel place and most trash transfer stations will have scales. This way you will include the weight of the motor. You *may* be around 1200#+ gross without other things in the boat. If this is the case, a spring rated at 1000# per spring, 2000# per pair is probably appropriate. You don't want to go too heavy but you CERTAINLY don't wanna be too low-rated, either.
