I bought my first I/O so I'm new to I/O boating and have little problem solving knowledge. I'm hoping I can count on the good people on iboats. I have a Mercruiser Alpha One that has a small trickle of water that leaks in only when it is trimmed all the way up while trailering. Once I trim it down at all it stops leaking. Any idea what would cause this? Do I need to replace the bellows? Do I replace all at the same time? What would be an estimated cost for the solution? Should I trim it down when stored? The boat is a 1999 Larson 206. Thank you for any help!

Yes it is probably the bellows

Yes, and while the shift cable and drive shaft boot are the ones which cause water to enter the boat, it is best to replace all of them including the exhaust boot.

Under 200 for the complete kit. Here is a link but we would need your serial number of the outdrive to pick the correct one

Yes, it is best to store the drive down to reduce stress on the boots/bellows

Maybe, driveshaft and shift cable for sure, if the exhaust bellows is in good shape, don't bother, save a little money (and a big PITA) and buy OEM bellows. Think about replacing the lower shift cable while you are in there. If the hose going from the outdrive into the transom is in good shape (no cracks or checks) that probably does not need replacing either. With the

Is this something I can do myself? I have some knowledge and mechanical abilities but have never done that before. How many hours would it take a shop to do? I guess the "on the trailer" part meant as I am putting it in and taking it out as I haven't had it trimmed all the way up at any other time. My fear is that a shop would tell me that I need other things and I'm new to I/O. Thanks again.
