I've got a 1997 150hp fast strike. Today I ran the motor with the cowl off, and notice gas leaking when I pumped the ball. I'm not sure if gas is leaking from more than one place, but I definitely know I've got a leak from a tiny hole located in the carb bowl. There is a tiny ball in the hole, but the gas is seeping out around the ball. I believe this is happening in all 6 of my carbs. What is this hole for? How do I fix it?

I had the same thing, I purchased a new bowl and replaced it. You could probably fill the hole with some JB weld and be fine, I have asked around about why it is even there, no one has been able to tell me thus far.

Re: leaking carburetor

Thanks. I've checked everywhere online to find schematics of the carb to find out what they call that hold/bb, but no such luck. Because it's leaking from all 6, I'm wondering if that is actually how it is supposed to work (and not that they all went bad.) I wonder if that hole is some type of release to keep the carb from flooding from over pumping the bulb?

Re: leaking carburetor

That hole is put in the carb when it is manufactured to drill a passage in the carb and then is plugged with the little ball. Yes they do fall out after time. It's either new carb bowls or try plugging just the hole with Gray Marine-Tex.

Re: leaking carburetor

yeah I have a few ocean runners- ocean pros, and those brass balls that close up those construction holes leak often. I have used a very good electrical degreaser, one that evaporates fast and cleaned that area , and quickly applied some super glue with a little paper towel mixed in( to give it body) onto that surface and sealed the ball. because i didnt want to take the carb bowl off...of course the port side carbs i cant access.... I redid them all when i changed carbs last summer...poped the balls out cleaned and resealed with glue.

there are a few other places that spring leaks as well...there are a lot of gas line connections on that motor....gets some new lines and some new hose clamps with the curved base, and a packages of new o rings and go around and replace all you can on all those connections... while you have the motor opened up....

if they dont leak now, it is just a matter of time...

good luck
