1991 Alpha One Gen Two

When my stern drive is raised for trailering I have a leak of drive lube. Tracked it to a split in the hydraulic line between the stern drive and the transom. Looking for advice on reaching the transom side hose clamp. Do I have to remove the bell housing? I’ve removed the leg before but haven’t messed with removing the bell housing. I just hate the thought of paying shop rates for a small section of hose.

As always thanks for your time and advice,
Dave

You will want to repair that lube tube. It's a sealed system that pressurizes when hot, and draws lube from the reservoir when cooling down. You run the risk of water being sucked into the drive through the faulty lube line.

Removing the bell hsg isn't my favorite job, but there are worse. You'll need two special tools to remove the pivot pins and to pull the replacement exhaust bellows into place on the bell hsg. $10 for the hinge pin tool. $30 for the exhaust bellows tool. Possibly less expensive if you dig enough.
