leaking lower unit

I have a 1979 evinrude 85 hp model #85999r. The lower unit seald were leaking. After replacing seals and new water pump and put back on made sure water tube was in pump tube. Started engine good flow engaged gears and then notice leaking at bewteen lower unit and upper. I was using muffs but don't it leaking before. Is this normal?

If you are talking about water leaking between the lower unit and the exhaust housing, it is common for it to leak there. You can drop the lower unit and use silicone on it if you want, but there is no gasket there.
