Leaking Oil Pump

My buddy has a 1991 Mercury 40hp, 4 cyl oil injected motor
The oil injection pump has been replaced twice now but every
spring we find the carburator flooded with oil leaking in from the injection pump
Even when we clean it up and get it running properly, if the boat is not used for a couple of weeks
the oil will the carburators with oil
We are thinking of removing the oil injection sytem and going to a 50:1 system if it is
possible

vent plugged in oil tank? To prove, try storing it with cap loose and see if it still floods with oil....

I replaced quite a few caps for this reason....
