I purchased a Kekhaefer Mercury 35 HP outboard 1967,68,69 vintage, Serial number 224031. The lower gear case was cracked and I replaced it with a lower gear case from a spare parts Mercury 35 Hp 1964 65 66 vintage, Serian number 1961234. Problem is the seal on this unit leaks.
A marine service shop tells me that they can order a seal but won't know if it is the right seal until the leaking seal is removed. They offer no garuntee that the new seal will fit. The labor cost will be $210 so I am looking for more opinions and information.
Anothr shop tells me there are kits containing several different sizes of seals from Chinese sources. This sounds like a possible solution.
If anyone has experience in installing new seals in the lower gear case of this old motor and where to get the seals I would be most grateful. Soddy
