leaking stator

CDI lists the same part # for the 74&75.<br /><br />PN 173-1232

i'm realy confused now the stator that i took of my 50 horse has only 3 wires.<br />2 yellow and one brown<br /><br />the numbers on the coil is<br />510839<br /><br />is this the wrong stator?

reeldutch, I messed you up last night I thought you were asking about a stator off a 75hp working on a 50hp not the year of 75 Bob Duh sorry

hey i figured it out.<br /><br />the stator that was on the moter was from a v4 according to the numbers on the coils and the pictures.<br /> http://www.outboardparts.com/mall/dynamic-results2.asp <br /><br />it is a 6 amp stator it is still working but leaking<br /> http://groups.msn.com/outboardpictures/rebuild1974evinrude50hp.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=14 <br /><br />why is it leaking?<br />does it have to do with the rectifer?<br /><br />thanks reeldutch

I don't think a 50hp rectifier is powerful enough to damage a stator.While loose battery terminals can cause heat to be generated,I would expect the rectifier to blow,keeping the stator safe.<br /><br />Maybe stators leak because of engine heat,age,and internally breaking down.<br /><br />I think you can replace it,and not worry about a meltdown soon.<br /><br />DHP
