I have been following this board for some time and found it to be a great resource.

I have a 2002 Bayliner 1952 which I purchased last year from the original owner with virtually no hours. The boat has been great, but I have one small problem. The windshield leaks. During a good thunderstorm or an all day rain, a couple of gallons of water will leak into the cockpit. (I do keep the boat covered)

The windshield is held in an extruded aluminum frame with some type of rubber gasket sealing the windshield in the frame as well as the aluminum frame to the fiberglass deck. The leaks come from several spots along he entire windshield, as well as between the windshield frame and the deck. I hav begun to tighten down the bolts holding hte frame to the deck and I suspect this may help with part of the problem.

I was hopeful that someone may have a solution. My guess is that I may need to remove the windshield and frame from the boat, remove the leaking gasket and then....? What is the best way to reseal the windshield? Replace the gasket, silicone bedding compound? I have seen some RV window sealing tape that may work , but I don't know if the end result would look good.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Leaking Windshield

Welcome Mr. Cat - -

Be careful not to overtighten the screws. They will strip the threads in the fiberglass very easily. Your plan of action is sound to me. I would use a very small bead of clear silicone around the seal between the glass and frame and a sealing tape, or even silicone, at the base of the frame.
