35 hp johnson 1998. I have located the leaking dark gas/oil fluid on my motor. ran it outside with muffs and found these little lines with small brass fittings that are plastic and carry something out ot the cylynders. They are melted off some and look like they carry something back to the carbs. Anybody know the function of these about 3/16 in diameter small plastic hoses? could of been clear at one time, they are behind the electronic package? Will replace with new ones tommorrow with new thus no more leakin. Looks like they sort of melted where they touch the sides of the cylinders......

Re: leaks discovered

mb...these are recirc hoses. They carry any fuel that ends up in the bottom of the reed cages to the cylinders and sometimes to the upper and lower bearings. Definetly replace them if they have holes in them. The little brass fittings are check valves. They let fuel out but not in.

Re: leaks discovered

OB...thanks it starts to make sense now. I thought they had something to do with unburned fuel. If they are supposed to help lubricate any bearings i wonder if it has hurt the engine and how to check for that?
