I have a 1978 Cal Glass (18 18/2 ft) runabout with what appears to be a leaky fuel tank (I have fuel bubbling up through the floor in the bow section). How difficult is it to replace the fuel tank? There is no access panel to the tank so I assume I will have to cut the floor. Any suggestions?

Re: Leaky fuel tank

I have a buddy at my marina who has a leak in his gas tank, he's done for the season. He has a 26-27 foot boat, so I'm not sure if it would be the same process, but the mechanic said they would have to take the engine out of boat, to be able to replace the fuel tank. on a boat 8-10 feet shorter, I don't know if the process would be the same, but it's something to think about.

With a fuel leak, you don't even want to try to turn the engine over, fumes could blow the thing up. good luck.

raa...you need to be very careful with that. you shouldn't just dump fuel down the storm drain in addition to problems with explosions/fire. the trash guys won't be too happy about gas-soaked foam in the trash. if they smoke...

you need to drain your gas tank first.

depending on local codes and your skills, you might need help with this one.

where's the boat now?

raa i forgot to mention, my buddy's boat is an I/O so the engine is sunk down under the deck, don't know if you're in the same situation or not.

I had the same problem,
unfortunately, it'll more than likely involve tearing out the carpet, seating, the floor and all the foam around the tank
A BIG job
