I have a 2001 4.3l with a 2bbl mercarb. I had a post on here a few weeks back about spun rod bearings and camshaft movement. So now that I have all that fixed (new short block). Thanks to everyone who gave their feedback. A problem I had that was discussed was a lean carburetor. I have rebuilt the card but how will I know if it's right? I dont want to end up blowing this new block I just bought because the carb issue. Do i just run it for a few hours and check the plugs? I really really dont want to kill my $1600 block. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If in doubt, rebuild the carb. Get a kit, take it apart and carefully clean each passageway and make for sure and for certain the float height is correct.

Next, when you run the boat on the water start out at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and listen. No pinging is important. Run for 20 minutes, stop, and pull a plug. Should be just starting to get a little bit tan color to it. Next do the same thing at 3/4 throttle. Listen always. You can and should also try rolling the throttle up to full open and listen for pinging then ease back to the throttle setting you are testing. You do have to run for a bit for the mixture to leave a consistent color on the plugs. May even take longer than 20 minutes if you have brand new plugs. Make sure you have a love and the proper tools to pull a plug when you go out.

Rebuilt the carb 2 weeks ago while I was waiting for the new block to arrive.

Before I took the old float out I measured and I dont remember the exact measurements but it was not right. When I put the new float in I did make the proper adjustments.
