Ok, now that i know that the "lean sneeze" is from your motor running to lean. SOOO does that mean if my motor is not "sneezing" at idle i am not running lean? I had to idle a good ways yesterday and it did not "sneeze" one time! So im not running lean????

That's it. if you are running with a good steady idle, your good to go.

Re: Lean sneeze!

Is there a such thing as a "rich sneeze" OR at idle, what are some signs of running too rich?

Re: Lean sneeze!

A lean sneeze is actually the fuel igniting in the crankcase. It would backfire out the carburetor if it were not for the reeds stopping the explosion from going in that direction. It sounds like a hesitation with a muffled misfire. A clunk and shake.

No such thing as a "rich sneeze". But running too rich will cause it to missfire and foul plugs. That is more like a simple skipped beat without the muffled clunk.

Re: Lean sneeze!

I have been fighting finding the cause of my lean sneeze with Rodbolts advice. Carbs rebuilt, closed off idle air bleeds to check them.still no luck finding the cause...:(

Re: Lean sneeze!

The engine sounds like it is making a muffled backfire. With the airbox cover off, you can see a spray of mist come out of the carb throat. This most always means a lean carb, or the engine is drawing air from another source increasing the fuel, air mixture. A lean mixture thru the idle circuit can mean just a sour running engine, thru the high speed circuit, disaster. A rich running engine most times will just be a rough idle, and the engine flooding itself out. The engine can also make, for lack of a better word, a blubbering sound, almost like it is four cycling.

If a motor does not "sneeze" at idle it only means it's not lean at idle. It very well could be lean at wot, mid range or even at 1000 rpm.

Which, of course is VERY bad!
