leaning boat

I got my 1963 Lyman 18 footer out in the water for the first time today. The problem was that under throttle it leaned way over to my side. I had to captain from the middle of the boat. To be sure it was not just to that side, my neighbor who is much heavier than me got in and he rode shotgun and the boat leaned way over to his side, again under throttle. This affects the pully steering also. Does anyone have a remedy to this?

Re: leaning boat

Is your prop a right hand or left hand rotation?

If I'm thinking of the correct boat, I think yours is a wood lapstrake hull, if it is are you sure the hull/keel is strait, did you upgrade your power? to many ponies can cause unsafe conditions will alot of older design hulls also.

Re: leaning boat

sounds to me like you may be running with the bow too far down (plowing). try trimming the motor out a little.

Catfish is probably correct. You need to provide more detail about the boat / motor and and other performance data of devices.

Details; 1963 Lyman Boat Works 18 foot Runabout. Has a 1969 Evinrude 55 Triumph Outboard. Wooden hull and pully type steering. "Northern Eclipse" was correct on the boats construction. It appeared to be trimmed correctly but I will make more adjustments.
