I curreently Hi/dry my 18 ft Crownline I/O. I leave it docked in the water at my home on the weekends. I would like to know how long I can leave it in the salt water with out barnicle build up and so it does not damage my lower unit. I flush the engine with fresh water every time I pull it out and wash down the boat and lower unit.

Jason P,

A lot will depend on how much you use it and where it will be moored.

If you use it every day, you could leave it in almost indefinetely with very little, if any, build up.

A few days, sitting still, will not hurt anything.

In Florida, I'd say about a week to ten days, max.. After that, barnicles take hold...

Remember to flush the engine thoroughly. Wash the hull, glass and any metal part that were exposed.

If you give the bottom a coat of wax and then apply a second coat without removing it,you will have no worries in case you dont take it out of the water soon enough.Anyone i have ever known that is doing what you are doing by leaving it unprotected in water for days at a time, have always run into 1 time where they could not get to take it out and wound up leaving it in for a little too long and had a mess .The wax works in a case like that.charlie
