Re: left handers

i've been pondering that ya know. i'm a righty, but i unlock doors and carry things lefty. i always worked my left side to keep it up with the other, and its always been the stronger arm. but nope, i write, throw, shoot & touch with my right :)

ahem, and i never use the word 'cute' to describe anything ;)

i might have been, cause my old fashioned mother would've changed me at a young age... i remember she did that to 2 of my sisters. one never lost the feel with a basketball, she had a killer 2 hand, outshot most guys on a jumper, and made MVP.

Re: left handers

I can and do use both.
When in school, fell from 3rd. row seating at a pep rally and broke my right hand along with 3 fingers, so had to start using the left hand and do use both when I want to.

Sign all important papers with my right hand cause that is what I have always done and it just don't look the same with the left hand.

Close crab, My wife and kids are all lefty's. So is my pop. My son golfs right handed, and the girl bats (baseball) right handed and shoots her bow right handed.

I seem to be the most accident prone of em all and I am a righty

Me too. Don't know of it true or not but in the Army they told me lefty shots tend to be among the best. I think it has to do with using your dominant arm to steady the weapon rather than pulling the trigger. Only problem is, if you forget to put on your brass deflector you burn your face  I know from experience. :D

Re: left handers

if a lefty shoots left, hes stabilizing with the non dominant arm (submissive arm? :D )

I suppose something could be made of the Amazon woment that used to make body modifications to facilitate archery skills, but nah, not worth it

Re: left handers

My fishing partner and wife both are right handed but shoot as a leftie. Partner claims that its because of left eye being dominant. I've watched both of them and they always shoot pistols aiming with their left eye also.

Ack! Yup I watched a pbs special on that
Re: left handers

Link - That is exactly why I shoot lefty. I also aim with my left eye with a pistol but pull the trigger with my right. Weird I know but it works. I qualified expert (39 of 40) from 50m - 200m with the M16 which is why the subject always came up on the range. Out of my whole company I think there were only 2 lefty shooters.

Lefties are over represented among engineers. Lot's and lots are lefties (probably becuase they are so right brained) ;)

Re: left handers

Right handed here. :p

Although I do have some signs of being ambidextrious. It was the nuns that messed me up. You would fail writing if you wrote with your left so we were trained to use our right hand. Hmmmm, not sure what that does to the brain.

I think 12 years of piano, helped me learn to use both. I can also type 122 WPM. :)

Re: left handers

Right hander here, but I am left eye dominant. This is an advantage in baseball, and a curse in shooting a shotgun, rifle, pool, or anything that you sight down the line because your dominant will take over. I hunt and play pool left handed. To find out what your dominant eye is, open both eyes and hold 1 finger up at arms length, align the finger on a object across the room. Now close each one at a time. Whatever eye is open when your finger is still aligned to the object is your dominant eye

Re: left handers

Born righty. Started swinging a baseball bat left because I have a lazy left eye. I did everything else righty. The carpender I worked for in high school suggested that I learn how to drive a nail left handed because somtimes it was necessary and it saves time. Also was instructed to weld left and right handed, it makes a big difference if you can. I developed carpal tunnel syndrom in my mid twentys and had surgery on my right hand. Since then I have become almost completely ambidextrious. A few years back I started playing golf left for a few years, a friend asked me to try right with his clubs. The ball flies much straighter but with less power. And I dont need my left eye as my head should be down anyway. I still like to put left though, need my eye here. I rarely tell people this anymore because people get real uneasy when you say "I swing both ways" :D

Re: left handers

I too am righty with a dominant left eye. I shoot quite a bit and have found that people who have a dominant right eye don't shoot my weapons as well because they are sighted in for my eyes. My hunting partner is left eye dominant also, and he actually lays his head further to the right when shooting so he is shooting righty with his left eye. Looks like a complete idiot, but he can get in that position quickly and he is a really good shot, go figure.

I'm right handed. About all my left hand can do is keep my watch from falling off my wrist. :D
My dad was right handed for certain things and left handed for others. The funny thing was if he tried to do something opposite of what was natural he would get all messed up.

Re: left handers

Gaugeguy,I am a avid duck/goose hunter I shoot both eye's open. I've been shooting left handed for 20 years now (I switched) and it still isn't completely natural. I've tried your buddies method, and it would probably work for a still target but for ducks its impossible for me

Re: left handers

I haven't tried duck hunting, but I do upland (grouse and pheasant) and I shoot with both eyes open when firing at them, I think it's because it's more reflex shooting. I do close my left eye when shooting my bow, rifle and handguns. Oh btw, my buddy hasn't shot a bird out of the air in years! If they are in the air around him, they are pretty safe. ;)
