Lefty here..Drives my buds nuts when I am casting especially when I sidearm cast. For those who fish with me a course in ducking is required..Sitting in middle seat is an exciting time when on boat with me..BubbaKat or MellowYellow will get a taste of it when we hook up in May..

Ambidextrious here!

I can write, shoot, operate power tools and other things equally well with both hands.

I have right-handed and left handed rifles, but have yet to find left handed pistols.

Even in the Marines, I had a left-handed M16A1!

I was the only one in my unit with one, and I never saw another for the entire time of my enlistment.

I wish I had some left-handed power tools for when I'm working in tight places, though I've yet to find any at any store.

Stanley Tools claims to manufacture left-handed tools, but I haven't ever seen any.

Only thing I can't do, is type fast, probably about 45 wpm.

Can't type too fast with only 3 fingers.

(I have all 10 digits, just can't get them to all work together when typing.)

Being ambidextrious helped while working on F-14D Tomcat's, A-6E Intruder's, and EA-6B Prowler's at Grumman Aerospace Corporation, especially in an area called the "Hellhole" on the aft section of A-6E's and EA-6B's, 2 small holes to get your hands into, to clamp wiring to a structure, without being able to see where your clamping, just go by feel, and barely being able to get your hands to the mounting point.

I alway's got that job due to my ambidextrious abilities.

At least I had some job securety, until they discontinued the A-6E Intruder and moved EA-6B Prowler operations to Florida.

Oh well!

Re: left handers

I am a righty, with right eye dominance. Shot 40 out of 40 50-300 meters M-16, 1000 out of 1000 on M2 Bradley gunnery (shooting has always been one of my skills). I have always shot both eyes open, and I taught that to the joes when I was an instructor. Left hand is useless in sports, but works well with meticulus movements that require detail and stability. I can write with the left, but it does not look as good as the right. Typing sucks, I am a speed-pecker, in that I hunt 'n' peck about 50 words a minute. True typing is godawful.

What is 40 out of 40 or 39 out of 40? How do they do marksmanship in the army?

Beg to differ Jason...Ask any righty who is on PBA tour..I Also was proficient in the M/16 and 45 range..If I remember right here, our thinkn process comes from the left side of brain which makes you rightys thinkn process all wrong..We think from the correct side but we don't hold it against you since we are always right... :D

Re: left handers

in The army in my time it was 38 of 40 hits or better from 50M - 200M was an Expert (highest rating) then it went down from there.

They are silhouettes of from about mid chest up that pop up at random within those distances over a predefined time. For each target you get so much time to spot, site and shoot the target (if you hit it, it falls over) and then then next pops up and so on. You get 40 rounds.

Re: left handers

That's a pretty cool way of doing it. In the corps we shot 25 rounds at 200 yards, 15 rounds at 300 yards and 10 rounds at 500 yards. Scoring system on the targets...I can still hear the DI's screaming at us "5's and 4's, 5's and 4's we don't want no maggie's drawers."

Re: left handers

We shot two sets of twenty. One set was from the fox-hole supported position, single and multiple targets from 50 to 300 meters. The other set of 20 was from the prone unsupported position. 36-40 was expert, 32-36 was sharpshooter, and I think 28-32 was marksman (its been 6 years, can't rmember everything). The round in the M16A2 is the same round used in the Squad Automatic Weapon, a 5.56 machine gun. It is accurate to 800 meters. You can hit an 800 meter target open site with an M16A2, but you had to really be a stud.

Gonefishn, I meant MY left hand is useless in sports. :D

A real stud to hit a target at 800 meters? I know that we were shooting man sized siloettes at 500 and the front sight post would completely cover the target. I think you would have to have some unreal vision for an 800 meter shot. That M16A2 was wicked accurate though.

Re: left handers

Hey Jason, im my day (early 80s) we only did the foxhole supported for all 40. I am pretty sure we went out 200M and at 200, those sized targets were tiny. Do they still do it as a time fire and are the targets still mid-chest head and shoulders?

Ralph
I also aim with my left eye with a pistol but pull the trigger with my right. Weird I know but it works.
Keith & wife both do the same and it works for them also :)

Tylerin
To find out what your dominant eye is, open both eyes and hold 1 finger up at arms length, align the finger on a object across the room. Now close each one at a time. Whatever eye is open when your eye is still aligned to the object is your dominant eye
Whoa! Anyone else here try that? At 9 feet when I closed my left eye the spot moved 10 inches to the right!

gaugeguy
Your correct and even before my glasses I had a hard time seeing the siloette at a 800 meters but have seen it done time and again.

My friend Jeff has been building (as money permitted) his new weapon for the last year or so. Three weeks ago he finally got to take it to the range and sight it in. At a 1000 yards you can cover a 5 round shot group with a 50 cent piece
Totally awesome. I do know the base prices on the scopes he was looking at last year ranged from $1500.00 - $2500.00 before options.

SBN, i broke my RH (well, wrist) in hi-skool wrestling. actually a much bigger badder guy broke it for me. it really bit because he was on my team, in @ 3 wt classes up. i broke the cast 2x trying to avoid training my LH :) but i was just gettin a good chuckle realizing someone else went thru the suffering of learning that one critical task with the 'uneducated hand'...

you know, i think my TP usage went up to 1/2 roll per session :D

This is a little funny I heard somewhere.

Since the LEFT side of the brain controls the RIGHT side of the body and the RIGHT side of the brain controls the LEFT side of the body then only LEFTHANDED people are in the RIGHT MIND.
