Volvo Penta AQ125A/270 combo. When I came in yesterday, I forgot to raise my outdrive and thank goodnes remembered before putting the boat on my trailer. To raise it, I had to turn my key on again but unfortunately, I forgot to turn the key off. The next day, I was out by the boat and heard ticking. Yep, the hour meter was turning. Outside of the extra hours that show on the meter, could I have screwed up anything else?

Check your coil for 'wet patches', overheated coils tend to leak oil.

If it still runs o/k - just carry a spare coil and points/condenser next time you go out.

If it won't run, replace them now.

I'd go a step further and new coil and points/condenser first.......

Some chance youll have to replace the ballast resistor but not likely. Also, you'll obviously have to charge the battery. If it a couple of years old it will likely have damaged by the deep discharge. All of the above is true unless you were lucky and the engine stopped with the points in the open position. Then the most likely damage is the extra hours and not much more
