Hello
I am trying to find a prop. I have a 1981 Bayliner powered by a volvo penta AQ125A w/a volvo penta 270 drive. The prop needs to be replaced and I am having some issues finding one. The one that is it know is a 14x19 3 blade alum, 17 spline short hub and left handed. Now the manual on this 270 says you can switch the linkage and make the drive run the oppisite direction.
In my search for a prop, I talked to a engineer that basicily said that my boat should be right handed. That the only time it should be left handed is if it the drivers helm was on the the left side like Europe, or if a boat has twin drives one left and one right to sit on the torque.
It is anticpated at least the driver's weight to be in the boat while it is underway, and the props rotation will counter the weight. Other wise he said that a driver on the right side and a left handed prop, would want to make the boat lay right side down.
This gentelman sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Not knowing this boat all its life, and being able to change drive dirction easily. I guess someone could have changed the direction. Maybe they hurt a prop and could only come up with this left handed.
Could someone out there tell me if any of this sounds right. Should this be right handed. Thanks
