Wasn't me, yet, it was this woman who tried to help a fellow boater out.

Dumped our boat in the lake and went to a channel where a buddy lives. Wasn't there long and saw this woman towing a couple and their boat thru the channel. Ok, no biggy. Sucked for the person being towed and I was impressed how the woman handled her boat. It's a very narrow channel. Only one boat can get thru it at a time.. At the buds for awhile and went down to the dock to leave. We hear this boat trying to start, but was unsuccessful. Yes, it was that same woman heading back! She's trying to start it and walking the boat thru the channel. It wouldn't start back up after she shut it down going over some very shallow water. It wanted to start, but just couldn't quite get there. It was an older 90hp Evinrude.

Talk about bad luck. Here she towed a boat in and needed a tow herself to get home. So we hooked up to her and towed her across a small lake to her cabin. Need all the towing points a person can get! We've been towed b/4 in the past too....

We towed a boat on Sunday and someone on a jetski (friend of the boater) thanked us and all I could say was "no worries. My day will come". And it will... Been there, done that.

It's our duty, WIMUSKY. I'm happy to hear you do your part. :D

I have spent many a days at marinas that cater to sailboats. They have a tendency to gang up on me to poke fun at me for being a "stinkpot". These guys grab a case of beer and tack for hours around the bay. I quickly ask what would happen if they actually go offshore or to a far away island and needed help? Only one boat around....me...the "stinkpot" willing to help. They quickly shut-up, buy me a beer, and we become as one on the water.

Keep up the good work. We need more like you out there!

Since the woman helped out a fellow boater by towing their broken boat, she then is rewarded with her own boat breaking down. Hence, the title...

Another story that happened today. Not a boating story. Just something more about helping people.

I run a small lawn/snow plowing service. I'm the only employee, unless I get my 14 year old daughter out there! lol Well, I went to mow this elderly womans lawn today. She's retired and her husband passed away a half a dozen years ago. They owned a restaurant that has since been torn down. No pention, pretty much just SS. Anyway, as I was about to mow, she walked out of her house and motioned me to come to the front door. She didn't look too good. She has been battling cancer and was on the upswing. As soon as she started to talk I knew something was wrong. She was having a tough time talking. She said, "I don't know if I can pay you(at this point I'm about to call 911, about her speech not the money) because I had a stroke 2 weeks ago". My heart sank. Of course, I said," Don't worry about it". It came out so fast I surprised myself. She said she would try and pay what and when she could. Again, "don't worry about it".

Yeah, I need the money. I have bills to pay like everyone else along with equipment payments. But in situations like this, who cares about the money. The lawn will still need to get mowed. If I get payed, fine. If not, that's fine too.

I guess all I'm really trying to say, if you have a chance to help someone out , do it. And do it without expecting anything in return. I know alot of you guys/gals already do and that's awesome! None of us know how long we're going to be on this earth. Why don't we just be the best that we can be while we're here. Because we're all going to need some form of help at some time.

Been a weird couple of days..................

Ever notice that the only people who complain about lending a hand to others are the ones that never do? I never gripe about giving someone a tow because I've been on the other side of it and getting towed sux.

Heck, last month I towed a boat 15 miles that didn't even need to be towed!! (VH...Sasto....you readin' this?? :D)

Oh... The boat needed to be towed, Fireman... She's a great little boat, but how do you suppose she was gonna navigate back to the marina with her crew aboard your boat??? You're a smart guy, Fireman, but I wonder about you sometimes...

Re: Let no good deed go unpunished...

A bunch of years ago, I had sort of a weird boat - a very ugly, 15 foot trihull with a pair of 6hp Johnsons on it. It went all of 8mph, wide open. I used to run that boat all over the place, often for ten hours at a time. It was like having a sailboat in terms of speed, but I never had to worry about having enough wind.

One of the funny things about the boat, is that I used to get strange looks and snears, from people at the launch and elsewhere, yet it never let me down. Never got stuck anywhere with it, even though I used to run the motors at WOT essentially all of the time.

I also used to tow people with it on a regular basis. Funny how that boat was "beautiful," when it was towing someone with a $15,000 motor home from the outer reaches of our bayous!
