I'm getting ready to raise my motor a bit so I called my merc. dealer about getting a lifting eye.. They run $35+... Anybody have one they don't need anymore?
$35 bucks seems like a lot of money for one use. But I'm stingy I guess...

i have used 3 short lengths of chain and the proper bolts to form a kind of three point lift in the past (at the flywheel). i used one of those links with the connector in it to connect them all togther and to put the hook of hoist in. can't think of the proper term for that link thingy. be sure to try and keep weight distributed even on the chains. this worked for my merc and for a johnson i had.

not thinking clear today. i didn't use this method on the merc. just on the johnson. if there are holes for puller in the flywheel i would think it would work just the same though. sorry to mislead. it has been a while since i pulled the merc off the boat. senior moment

you may be able to get by with just lowering the tongue and using a piece of board under the skeg as a cushion then raise tongue back up. depends if there is a slot for bottom bolts or just holes. my old merc had all holes so i couldn't use this method.
