I have a 2000 VIP Valiant. I need to replace the all around light pole...How do I know who makes it...Attwood, Perko, etc...

It is round and chrome...of course...has a flat black bottom with 2 round holes and a notch that sticks out so some dummy like me doesn't slide it into the plug the wrong way! :)

The gas cap...well that is probably harder to explain. Color probably doesn't matter but the cap sticks up off the mounting plate and it has a plastic snap when you close it...of course the snap is broken so from time to time is will flop open pretty easy. I guess I don't expect much with that lousy description...:p

I called the dealer I bought the boat from and they won't tell me who makes those parts...he will only say that they have them in stock...what a jerk!

The dealer may not actually know who makes those parts. He has them in stock because he sells the boats that use them. I suppose you might save a few bucks by searching until you find them online, but I'm not sure your dealer is a jerk. He has parts for the boats he sells. You need parts. Why would he not tell you that he has them in stock.

For me, if the difference in price is not significant, I would choose to buy the parts from the dealer who sold me my boat. As a regular customer, I might just get a little faster service the next time I came in with some problem that needed his attention.

i agree wit cat... those parts aren't going to have such a high markup either.

also, we just replaced our stern light and it was a fiasco... the recepticle wore out and we thought perco would still have the same mounting sequence (like our warranty after 25 years - things wear out and change). went through a few combinations before we had THE one and spent more time returning than it was worth.

we go to the gas dock at the marina every once in a while to support them. they know we could trailer to the station down the street. but when the idle is set weird, our guy comes out and helps us troubleshoot.

oh - and since you need a gas cap - get a locking one. they are starting to siphon gas up here.
