Like Father, like Son?

Probably true but I also say, like father, like daughter. My father in-law was a prolific button pusher on the computer. Something would pop up and he would always push the wrong buttons and mess things up.

Well, his daughter,(my wife) is the spittin image. Now her computer is messed up. It all started when she leaned on the shift key. It brought up the Filter Key box. Instead of just canceling she went into settings and who knows what.

I've checked all those but they do not address the problem she now has.

For starters when you click on an icon on the desk top, or maybe Control Panel about 5 or 6 icons become highlighted.

Another is in Word or email writing. It is like Cap lock function is reversed. I cannot find where these things are controlled.

Another is in outlook express. You have to double click on the create mail button instead of single click.

Another is the mouse scroll wheel does not work.

All of these issues may be related but I cannot find the magic button. I've checked the CP mouse and keyboard functions and they seem to be set at normal.

Any ideas!

..and BTW, I should add that this is a laptop running a regular optical mouse.

Sounds like the shift key might be stuck. Give it a couple taps and see if it works right after that.

Find an eleven year old. They know all about it.

Oh so true JB. Used to give my, then, eleven year old (maybe even younger) my new cell phones to play with. I could barely figure out how to turn it on, let alone learn all the features but he would intuitively go straight to the games.

i386, you are a genius. I hammered on both shift keys then went to try it out and every thing worked.

Thanks

XP or Vista?

It was XP Jerico. But it is fixed now. Seems something stuck on the shift key (which the Mrs had leaned on) and had nothing to do with her making wrong choices.
