I believe i need to do a link n sync. it idles high and it stalls when i go to open it(the throttle) up. Can anyone send me instructions or tell me how to do it on a 1985 Evinrude e70elco? I normally would order a shop manual and do it myself.. but by the time i get it, my season will be almost over. Thanks..

Re: Link n Sync?

With the throttle cam roller NOT touching the cam, have the linkages between the carbs set so that all throttle butterflies open and close at the same time, and that when closed, the butterflies are "all" actually closed.

Check that the throttle butterflies just start to open when the scribe mark on the cam aligns dead center with the throttle cam roller.

That's about it unless you've changed the measurement between the vertical throttle arm and the cam linkage.

Your explanation however of the problem indicates that the carburetors are fouled and need cleaning.

Re: Link n Sync?

If you really want to do a full link&sync you need a service manual for your specific engine. This is a process you do not do half way. The process is about 12 pages long in my manual and far to detailed to cover here. The process involves carb opening and carb/ignition timing sychronization and finally throttle cable adjustment. Do it right to avoid endless frustration, tinkering, etc. Try your local library as they often have these manuals.
