Linkage adjustment

I have a Johnson 1998 50 hp 2 cycle spl. I cannot find anything that would help me in adjusting the linkage for the forward, reverse. The upper linkage us for the throttle and the lower one is for the transmission and has a thumbscrew type of adjustment. I think it is right on the edge of in/out of gear and want to adjust it so it will hold it's position while in gear. Which way, looking at the motor from the rear, would I adjust the thumbscrew to lock it better in gear? Clockwise or Counterclockwise?
