I am looking for muy first boat to purchase . I will be using it for salt water bay and flats fishing. I have found a 20' aluminum Jon boat that someone has pieced together that will probably work good and it is very cheap. The main problem seems to be the controls (center console). It will not idle in neutral. The problem seems to be on the console end. I have heard that linkage is not universal and I may have a hard time finding the correct setup or it may be expensive. Can anyone confirm this?

This will be my first boat, but I have rebuilt a few old cars, so I am fairly mechanically inclined.

I don't know if it matters, but it's an old "force" engine.

Re: linkage and throttle

What will be expensive, is a pieced together boat with an old force outboard. I would pass on this one and keep on looking....
