A friend of mine bought a 1989 Baretta boat with a 135 HP Volvo/Penta I/O on it a few years ago. Last Summer towards the end they lost the prop on their boat as it came off in about 60 feet of water (Thinking a little preventative maintenance would have helped here ) He is trying to figure out what size of prop to put on their boat but cant look at the old prop or anything. They are of course on a budget and I decided I would look around and see if I can find what size their OEM prop was on the unit. If anyone can help me figure out what size of prop it had we can work on finding a replacement.

I appreciate your help!!

without knowing what you had I would start with a 19 pitch alumimum prop....this will give you a starting point to see what your speed and rpm numbers are - have them check the max rpm at full throttle - I'm not sure on that engine but the max will be somewhere around 4600-5000 RPM - it may state this on the engine. You want to find out this max number and not exceed it. You should not go over it and you should be any more than 400 below this Max number.

you can find the props you need on this site.

:welcome: to iboats

If you plan on buying a new prop you can go to a prop shop or dealer and ask to try some. They will charge you the cost of a new one and let you try different ones. Once you find the right pitch your good. If your looking for a used one, this to can maybe be done, just need to find out if their willing to let you do it.

We may be able to pin this down better if he can remember the wot rpm and top speed.
It would help to know size and weight of the boat.Typical load and activities.
Lacking actual numbers a description of the performance may help.
My thoughts if he can't find a dealer that will let him try props and on a budget go with a 17" pitch.
The diameter will simply follow the design.
A 17 may be a little light but will give peppy performance as long as you stay within the rpm rating.
If we start with more pitch the motor may lug and struggle and not meet design numbers. You shouldn't use it for an extended
period.
If possible see if there is any information on the motor,hp,displacement, max rpm.
The gear ratio may be on the outdrive.
