little water flow at heads 1978 merc 1500 v6

I need to know where to look next I've changed impeller and bushing in impeller housing very little water getting to top of heads with thermostats out where do I check next???

When you removed the impeller what did the impeller housing look like? Was is scored and pitted? Does it have a replaceable plate underneath? Pull off the lower unit again and remove your thermostat and back flush with a gardent hose then forward flush with the hose on the pickup tube at the impeller. See if you get good flow both ways.

sorry should have mentioned new impeller housing also going to hook a hose directly to tube coming down shaft and see what happens thanks for the reply

worked on it this past weekend now I have water to thermostats good flow coming out exhaust thru the prop but very little flow out tell tale and no water out top exhaust ports how would I go about cleaning exhuast ports and tell tale I took hose and fittings off and cleaned them found no blockage where do I look next

if i am wrong sorry, but i dont think water is meant to come out the top exhust ports.<br /><br />Again i am not sure on that engine, but on mine it does not.. Just out of the pee pee hole and middle of the prop

took it all apart again flush and cleaned all I could reach flushed out everything put it all back together new thermostats new impeller new impeller housing wear plate and all seals still I get only a little water out tell-tale took off all fittings and hose and cleaned them wear else do I need to look I'd apreciate anyhelp with this thanks in advance oh and stuart water is supposed to come out top exhuast ports on this motor not alot but enough to keep the aluminum housing cool

got it figured out this weekend lack of water volume at the hose the motor needs to be in a tank this motor really needs a lot of water went out this last weekend got it running good ready to go fishing thanks for the reply's
