Worked on the boat today, a 22 foot Lowe Deckboat with a 88 SPL on it.
Had some oilly discharge from what I later found out is unburnt fuel in the cowling.
I had noticed some seepage from the engine when the motor is in the up position from the trim.'
It was'nt much but warranted a look under the cowling.
I had the cover off and was poking around when I grounded a ratched against the power post on the engine.
A "small" puff of smoke was produced in the micro second the ratched was grounded.
I checked the ignition switch, nothing....
/the guages didnt turn on and the warning buzzer didnt gime me the sound it makes when I turn the ignition key on.
Ok, There has to be a fuse somewhere that is blown.
I check all fuses with a circuit tester, check the push in breakers on the dash. I get the manual I bought to trouble shoot the problem.
Hummm, nothing really in it for non-starting problems like this.
I check in the console, looking at all connections and checking circuits with a circuit tester. Hummm, I have power here....
I check the power post connector thing on the engine, I have power there.
Ok, I read the manual and in my exhausted state, been up since 0130 in the morning after a few hours of sleep, I deduce that a major component must be damaged.
I hook the trailer up the the truck and take the boat to a shop I use around the corner from my house, maybe 1/4 mile away.
Brian and his wife are from England and have treated me well in the past.
I explain my problem to Brian, we pop the cover off, and he finds a itty bitty fuse, 30 amp, 32 volt opposite of where I grounded the hot post in a batch of wires is blown.
Brian replaces the fuse and I'm on my way.
He also tells me the oilly discharge at the base of the engine is unburnt fuel, no biggy unless I absolutely have to have it fixed. The discharge isnt much at all.
Like I said, Live and Learn or in my case, Ignorance is Bliss.
