i have a 150 1988 omc and a 1990 88 omc i need to load test both engines at home it is getting expensive to pay 10 dollars every time i want to work on the engines and i have to do it at the lake
i am looking for a "test wheel" that will be able to run on both engines (i hope) so i can run these units at my home with a load on them i have tryed a 200 gallon tank but there are still problems the propes will draw air and the rpm's will take off then i have to lower the engine speed to get water back to the prop this is causing a problem with my testing
my 150 runs great for 30 min or so then sems to loose power but continues to run i have checked everthing
my 88 will run for about 10 min then slow down and quit if i let it quit the engine cannot be turned for about 5 min then out of the blue you can start it and it will run agian there is no engine damage that i can see
i would be thankfull for any help

Re: load testing both my omc engines

The V4 has a 13 spline propshaft and the V6 has a 15 spline so you'll need 2 test wheels. If the V4 is locking up you'll need to pull the heads to see what damage has been done. When you say the V6 loses power you'll need to find out if you're losing spark on a cylinder or two.

A compression test on both motors would be a good starting point.
