loading up at idle and spark knock at wot

i just bought this 85 evinrude 50 hp and runs great just loads up and dies at idle and knocks at wot,still have same gas in it that came with it i was thinking they have it to rich it does smoke quite a bit when starting after it dies(takes some cranking but will start again) just lookin for info thanks

The spark knock sounds like a timing problem, do a link and sync. If you haven't done the standard maintenance on an unknown motor, do it immediately and save yourself a ton of headaches.
