What are some types of local stores that would have copper core spark plug wire, head gasket material, fuel hoses, and or (in my case) the small springs in the old recoil starter assemblies? My local Johnson dealer tried to sell me one of those springs for $15! I told him it was worth 50 cents to me.....

I've never found copper core spark plug wire in my neck of the woods. Your BRP dealer is generally your best shot for local stuff - but you'll pay for the privilege. Some things may be worth more to you than others. I once needed to buy a cam follower on a Saturday morning that I broke doing a carb rebuild. I had two choices. Pay $7 and get it that day, or pay $3 + shipping, and wait.

I bought it.

My local Napa closed about six months ago due to the "downturn in the economy", although really they closed because they chose to open a new location within a quarter mile of SIX other auto parts retailers.

Their markup on napa branded Sierra products was extreme. Never had stock. I can get to the BRP parts dealer with less gas than any of the remaining Napa stores in town.
