Do local marine places usually carry alignment tools for the engine/outdrive?

Sometimes they do but it will probably not be cheap.

I went to a local steel supplier and bought a piece of 1.375" steel rod and made one one a lathe.

It'll be cheaper to just buy one I suppose....... If you went to a machine shop, it might be more depending on what they would charge you to make one.

It took me about an hour to make mine on the neighbors lathe.

Cheers,

Rick

A dealer would want at least 100 bucks for one.

Your local NAPA can also get one for you.

I bought a Sierra one from the local O'Reilly's. Ordered it about noon on a Friday and got it Sat. at 8am. Was more expensive than ebay, but I had an experienced boat mechanic offer, on the spur of the moment, to help me on that particular Saturday so it was well worth the difference.
