The shop called and said the reason the I could not shift out of reverse under load is that the 1) the idle was too high, and 2) the shift interrupt switch had been removed. They were unable to locate a replacement switch through Merc. Does anyone can I get a new (or used) shift interrupt switch for my Merc 888, 1971, Ford 302,188hp, R outdrive?

Re: locating shift interrupt switch

bt doctur: I tried Shorts Marine for the switch but they said the switch had been discontinued since 2002. They said thos switches and their replacement has been a nightmare in the past, and that there is no direct replacement option for my motor. They recommended taking the boat to a Merc shop familir with retrofitting these systems to do the work, since it is a safety item. I was going to have the shop install it anyway, but was trying to locate a switch because they were having difficulty locating one. Do you think youo may have one?

I don't have the original serial number because the motor was replaced, but based on an engine mounting parts diagram I found on Short's Marine's site, it appears it is below # 3777489.
