Locking gas cap?

I'm thinking of keeping my Lund 1750 Fisherman in the extra parking stall in the heated underground garage at my Mom's condo complex, but there have been a few reports over the years of residents having gas stolen from their tanks.

Perhaps my question belongs in the Lund forum (sorry), but does anyone know if they make locking gas caps for filler tubes located on top of the gunwale?

I take it this is an outboard so locking the fuel filler solves only one of the fuel theft issues. The fuel line from the tank to the engine is exposed and therefore easily cut. A jump start box with an electic fuel pump would extract the contents of the fuel tank in a matter of a couple of minutes. Siphoning through the fuel line is not much of an issue since the anti-siphon valve would prevent this. I'm installing an electric fuel shut off solenoid inside the fuel tank compartment on my pontoon. The compartment is bolted shut so they would need a considerable amount of time to extract any fuel by trying to gain direct access to the tank. I'm also fashioning a steel strap that passes over the fuel filler and locked with a padlock so the cap cannot be opened. I'll post some pictures when finished.

If it's a Perko gas fitting (very common) they make an insertable lock for it. I just got one last week, it works great! About 3 inches long and the same diameter as the gas hole for the unleaded nozzle. Just pops in and out.

If it's a Perko fitting it will have the part numbers under the cap, on the hull fitting, so you can see if the lock will fit it.

As Silvertip says, you'll need to make sure it's not real easy just to get into the line BELOW the fitting!

I looked at that lock at BoatersWorld. It looked like it could accidently end up at the bottom of the tank. What stop the lock from falling into the tank?

The tab on the top of the lock fits into a recess (looks like it's made for it) in the Perko hull fitting.

We carry the Tank Lock. It is a 2 piece lock that is a very nice quality.
