when i took of the 4 carbs, 3 of the 6 studs came out, instead of just the nuts. when i go back to putting the carbs back on, should i use locktight where the studs go into the manifold, or just tighten them snug. second, what should i torque the nuts to that attach the carbs, and should they use locktight?

thanks for the help

I don't think it would hurt to use lock tite on the studs. Didn't the carb's have lock nuts on them? What engine?

no, the nuts that sucure the carbs aren't lock nuts, i was just wondering if you had to tighten them with a torque wrench or not, and if i should use lock tite on them or not.it is a 99 125 merc.

thanks

You don't need locktite...you are only holding the carbs on. Use new gaskets and just snug them them up good. And then snug again after a few hours running...

A little grease wouldn't go a miss though just to inhibit corrosion for next time they need to come off..

If ya got it, use it. Loose carb mounting hardware can lean out and score a cylinder. I'm sure it's not prevalent or anything. But if you can avoid it that easily, go for it. Red on the studs into the block, blue holding the carb. They sell small tubes of the stuff, fairly cheap.
