I tried to update my original thread, but my 'Activity' is suffering the same issue as messages.
Recap: I discovered my press fit upper drive shaft became non-press fit - twice.
My plan and hopeful fix:
I installed a pressure gage on my press.
I purchased a new upper drive shaft.
I contacted Loctite/Henkel's techs on their web page, described the issue and asked for advice. They said RC638.
While waiting for the RC638 I reassembled the old shaft with the old RC609 I tried once. This was for a psi breakaway baseline test.
This time I heat I made sure I applied plenty of the RC609, cured the joint in the admiral's oven @ 170 deg F, 45 min.
Breakaway 3900-4000 psi - with a bang. Spec compressive shear = 2290 psi (?)
Repeated the test today with the RC638. Same heat cure. No breakaway at 5000 psi. Spec = 4200 psi. I stopped.
End of plan which was to reassemble with the new shaft and the RC638.
The assembly is going back into my outdrive. I'll check again next year, hopefully for the last time.
