log to center riser manifold?

Im converting from log manifolds to center riser manifolds on a 1980 merc 260.

5.7l v-8, is it normal to get exhaust coming out of the riser water inlets when the hoses are not hooked up? Is it coming from where the water and exhaust mix at the outlet? Just curious if the riser gaskets are leaking?

Thanks for any help on this.

I just got it put back together, only ran dry for about 30 seconds, I don't have the thermostat housing or all the water hoses run yet. I did have water hooked up to drive unit with muffs though. I just let the water drain out of the p/s cooler into the bilge. Just makeing sure everything was in order before I button everything up. Thanks Bond-o for the info.

Sure, if there no water in the manifolds, exhaust can run thru the water jacket. Don't let water hit them hot manifolds or they may crack.

Good thing you have water to the pump.

Ayuh,... You Really shouldn't do that,...
The rubber couplings,+ shutters get all burnt up in No Time....

Good Luck...

Re: log to center riser manifold?

I only let it run for 20 -30 seconds. not even long enough for the manifolds to get warm. I just started it to make sure it runs after putting it together. I always make sure they run before finishing everything up. i dont like to have to take everything apart again if something isnt right.

But thanks for the info, just wanted to make sure the riser gaskets were not leaking.
