Newbie post. . .

Sorry if I?m doubling up here on past posts. . . But I?ve recently inherited an old v-hull Lone Star aluminum boat that my great-grandfather used in the 1960s and 70s. I?m in the process of restoring/repainting/converting the boat, trailer and motor and had a question about installing a casting platform in the bow. . .

The boat is about 16 to 18- feet long (I don?t have an exact measurement) but only approximately 4 feet wide, so it?s not the most sure-footed thing I?ve ever tried to walk on. I would like to install a casting platform that goes over the front seat and tucks into the bow of the boat, but my concern is the height will through the center of gravity off too much and make it tough to stand on. There is a small triangular piece of aluminum in the bow to build off of, so I don?t have doubts about making the platform sturdy enough?I?m just worried even a gentle rocking will send someone head-first into the water.

Here are a few pics. . . I extended a piece of lumber over the seat so you can estimate where the platform would be sitting. . . . Anyone have some thoughts? Would I be better off just building a smaller platform at the lower level of the triangular piece? Thanks!

Re: Lone Star Casting Deck???

having own a lonestar, small low platforn, level with front step. i had almost the same boat, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=178983. launch it and stand on the seat, carefully, no to take an unwanted swim. here are somemore pics. i also laid panels between tehe seats, to make standing easier.
