long hub /short hub

I have a volvo penta 270 outdrive. I currently have a short hub prop which has a spacer with a center lock bolt in the cone. can I remove the spacer and use a long hub prop? The manual is not specific to this..I bought a long hub prop, thinking I had a long hub on it originally,but it is a short hub.Any help would be greatly appreciated..

in the last month i have lost 1 propeller and 2 cone nut kits while running props without the lock washer. after my experiences i would not recommend running a prop without it, i wouldn't feel safe relying on the torque of the cone and allen screw to hold onto my new prop.

So I guess the answer is no? I can't use the long hub with out the spacer?

u can use a long hub prop on a short hub without the spacer. just make sure u use the appropriate hardware (including a plastic washer) and torque it to spec.

Thank you for the reply, I measured everything out and I couldn't see why it wouldn't work..It's just that if I put the prop on the boat and it doesn't work, I can't return it.And that's a chunk of change I prefer to be positive about..Thank You
