Long shank OK?

I hope this in the right forum, but here goes. I have a friend that's going to give me a 15hp 2 stroker (don't recall brand) that has some running issues (cause(s) to be determined later) and I was toying with the idea of sticking it on my little 12ft alum boat. It currently has a short shaft 6hp, which is fine. The 15hp is mostly for "just to see" but my main question, is this. Is there a reason I cannot use a long shank motor on this little boat, other than requiring it to be run in deeper water?

I know it's not ideal, but will it cause any real problems? The other thought is to fix it, sell it or trade for another short shank motor.

it won't do any damage to run a long-shaft motor but it will affect performance some. You will need to test run and adjust the pin setting, as the longer shaft exagerates the trim angle of the motor.

Thanks for the link. I read the thread, and one other. good feedback, and will see if it might be worth it to raise the transom the extra 5".
